The History of Easter Eggs
With the help of social media, Jeep Easter eggs have gone viral, allowing both current and prospective Jeep owners to scour their vehicles and search for Easter eggs that each feature a different motif and meaning. Hidden across select Jeep models, Easter eggs are planted in places where you'd least expect, that are almost always overlooked.
While the awareness of Jeep Easter eggs is fairly recent, the history goes back to 1997 in the design of the TJ-generation Jeep Wrangler. Designer Michael Santoro hid a replica of the iconic seven slotted grille design into the hood cowling. The sensation was a hit, and since then, Jeep Easter eggs can be found in places you'd least expect across various Jeep models.
Where to Find a Jeep Easter Egg
Jeep Easter eggs are in places where you’d least expect them. Sometimes they're in plain view and may appear as an homage to Jeep’s iconic seven-slotted grill, and other times, Easter eggs may pay tribute to the original Willys Jeep. Let's discover a few Easter eggs throughout the Jeep lineup, and discover how you can find more on your vehicle:
The Jeep Wrangler
In the Jeep Wrangler, you'll find the silhouette of the original Willys Jeep hidden just about everywhere. You can find this Easter egg climbing the edge of your windshield, or you might find it on your gear shifter, wheels, or even etched into your floor mats. On the Wrangler steering wheel, you'll find three notches around the center local cap. This subtle design is a reference to the steering wheel design of the original 1940s Willys Jeep.
The Jeep Gladiator
The Jeep Gladiator features iconic seven-slotted designs etched all over the cabin, and even on its exterior. You'll find a seven slide grille etched in between the windshield wipers. If you look further down the cowling, you'll even find a pair of flip-flops etched in.
At the end of its truck bed, you'll find a heart and the numbers “419” engraved into the body. This is the area code for Toledo, OH – the place that the Gladiator is assembled.
The Jeep Renegade
The Renegade may be a compact suv, but it features bold Style, and Easter eggs etched into its very design. If you look at its tail lights, you'll notice unique “X”s in the center. This is no coincidence, these pay tribute to the original gas cans attached to the Willys Jeep used in WWII.
Just underneath the gas filler door, you'll find a small spider saying “Ciao Baby”. This is a tribute to the Italian Fiat engineers that helped design the Renegade.
The Jeep Compass
Jeep Compass welcomes adventure, and is packed with many hidden features, and design cues that put a smile on your face. In addition to seven slotted designs everywhere, you'll find unique features that take your Easter egg hunt to the next level. If you look just beneath the windshield wipers of the Jeep compass, you'll see a 3D image of a gecko staring back at you. Compass models are also designed with the silhouette of the Loch Ness monster swimming across the rear windshield.
